Here we are in 2021!  Each year I seek the Lord for the coming year and this morning I am really pondering ‘What do I actually expect since 2020 was so challenging?’.  Do we even dare to hope for better things such as freedom in our daily lives?  For most of us our circle has become smaller and it appears it will be shrinking more.  The Lord gave me three words for this year – repent, believe, expect.  As I ponder these words I began to understand the message he was giving to me.

First, I believe we must repent for not trusting God.  Yes, we were hit with Covid, election fraud, many losses, and isolation.  It has been challenging to trust God when everything appears so bleak.  As I sat before the Lord repenting for my mistrust or doubt, I realized how the tactic of the enemy to oppress us and suppress our voices has caused us to accept what we see in the natural as truth instead of what God is actually doing behind the scenes.  I often hear these words ‘It is not over yet.’ and keep wondering not just what it means but when will God intervene.  Our hope has been like a roller coaster ride, so excited and then deflated when the enemy raises his hand again.  Perhaps we need to repent and trust God that he indeed is still working.

I often do not understand why specific things have happened in my life yet each time God has worked it out for good.  I must believe that he is doing the same in our current situations.  So I am choosing to believe that God will do great exploits in 2021.  It has become a daily choice for me as I know it will be for you.  This is because our natural circumstances loom over what we cannot see.  This is where faith must enter in.   In fact, I think we need great faith!

In John 16:19, the disciples were sad that Jesus told them he would leave them.  Do you feel Jesus has left you?  Are you wondering when he will show up again?  Jesus makes this statement, “Let me make it quite clear: you will weep and be overcome with grief over what happens to me.  The unbelieving world will be happy, while you will be filled with sorrow.  But know this, your sadness will turn into joy when you see me again.  Just like a woman giving birth experiences intense labor pains in delivering her baby, yet after the child is born she quickly forgets what she went through because of the overwhelming joy of knowing that a new baby has been born into the world.”  I believe God is birthing something new on the earth today.  We are going through major birth pains right now but it will soon be forgotten when the actual birth occurs.

Previously in John 16:12-13, Jesus tells us that he has so much more he would like to tell us but it is more than we can grasp at this moment.  “But when the truth-giving Spirit comes, he will unveil the reality of every truth within you.”  I believe the birthing is an awakening of the body of Christ to accept all that is available to us.  There is so much more in Christ that came directly from the Father that we have not embraced.  2021 is a year of great expectation for his fullness to be revealed but also activated within us.  The church will be changed dramatically.  We won’t just have knowledge about his anointing and gifts but we will be walking out in power, miracles, signs, and wonders for the one purpose of revealing others to our king, Jesus Christ.

Do you dare to expect more this year?  Set your sights on his word, his promises, and then watch as the Lord fulfills each one.
